THE NEW ROLE OF MANAGERS
NO LONGER COULD MANAGERS JUST TELL EMPLOYEES WHAT TO DO AND WHEN. LIFE HAS BECOME TOO COMPLICATED; MANGERS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO KEEP UP WITH SO MANY CHANGES SO QUICKLY. THEIR ROLE IS SHIFTING FROM TRADITIONAL " COMMAND AND CONTROL " APPROACH TO A NEW MODEL IN WHICH THEY CREATE ENVIRONMENTS IN WHICH THEIR ASSISTANTS COULD TAKE A LEAD IN SETTING TARGETS, DETERMINING TASKS TO BE DONE, AND MEASURING RESULTS. IN THIS NEW WORLD MANAGERS SPEND MORE TIME FACILITATING BY KNOCKING DOWN BARRIERS THAT GET IN THE WAY OF EMPLOYEES DOING WHAT THEY NEED TO AND BY TRAINING AND COACHING, AND THEY SPEND LESS TIME INSPECTING AND ORDERING.
