Ghalib, Jin ko hum paidaish ke lihaaz se Akbarabadi keh sakte hain, neez ek lambe arse Tak Dehli mein qayam ki wajah se Dehalvi kehlate hain. Inn do bade shaharo'n ke zariye se adabi aur tahzeebii aitbaar se qadar-e-mushtarak darja rakhte hain.
Apne zamaana-e-hayat mein bhi woh ek bade shayer, nasar nigaar, hannkaar aur adabi naqqad thay, adabi taareekh mein bhi unn ka naam ek bade shayer ki haisiyat se aata raha hai. Farsi se unn ko khaas shaghaf tha aur Urdu maktoobaat mein woh ek khaas adabi asloob ke Baani khyal kiye jaate hain. Unn ka ek she'rr hai--

Yeh ganjeenah-e-m'aanii ka tilism unn ka Urdu kalaam hai, jis mein unho'n ne apni shayerana mazmoon-bandi husn-e-bayan aur lutf-e-zabaan ke behtareen namoone pesh kiye hain.
Unn ke khyal se unn ke Urdu kalaam ki woh qadar na huii jis qadar-farmaii ya qadar-afzaii ka mustahiq unn ke ash'aar ka yeh silsila tha. Magar woh iss par yaqeen rakhte thay ke unn ke baad unn ki shayeri ki qadar zaroor ho gi.
Yeh tau nahin kaha jaa sakta ke Ghalib ki shayeri ki mai-e-rangeen apne waqt mein nasha-aawar nahin thi aur yeh sharab khareedari ke fuqdaan ke baayes rafta rafta baada-e-kuhan mein badli hai ( jis ke baad sharab ka nasha tez ho jaata hai ) magar iss mein bhi koi shak nahin ke waqt ke saath saath Ghalib ki shohrat mein bhi izaafa hua balke ghair-maamooli izaafa hua aur unn ke she'rr-o-sh'aoor ki sharab tu'nd-o-tez waqt ke guzarne ke saath mai-e-do-aatisha balke seh-aatisha ho gaii.
